POST FROM DENISE REGARDING OCTOBER EVENTS

I'm going to need some help setting up on Fri. and also
publiciszing the HWA screening on Sunday. I also need a
flyer for the HWA screening on Sunday, done ASAP. I'm
working on the Oct. 21 flyer. Can I get some help?

I need everyong who is reading to email me or call me
with their email address and phone #. Please state the
DATE your'e reading.

We'll need decorations for the event on Fri. I have three
events this weekend and a whole week of work, so if
someone could put together a flyer for our Oct. 15th
screening and post it EVERYWHERE i'd be really
grateful.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15, from 7pm-9pm at The Chaplin Theater of Raleigh Studios

The Horror Writers Association Los Angeles/Orange County Chapter presents:

A FREE screening of The Yellow Sign and Call of Cthulhu (made by the HP Lovecraft Historical Society)

Afterwards, there will be a Q&A with directors Aaron Vanek (me) and Andrew Leman (Call of Cthulhu) afterwards, talking about adapting literary works to the screen.

Where?
Raleigh Studios 5300 Melrose Avenue (across the street from Paramount Studios) Los Angeles, CA 90038

Map
Guests should enter through the Van Ness gate
They can park in the structure on the EAST side of Van Ness Ave., just south of Melrose for $5 or, free street parking is available if they want to search for a spot
(it can get busy around there).
YOU CANNOT PARK DIRECTLY ON THE RALEIGH STUDIOS LOT-- DO NOT TRY TO DRIVE ON TO THE LOT

Guests should then walk through the pedestrian gate at Van Ness. Tell them you are going to a screening at the Chaplin Theater. They will direct you, but here are some directions anyways:

Go through the gate, walk straight ahead towards the sound stage wall. When
you are just about to hit the wall, turn left, and you will pass through a gate and down a small hill. Once clear of the building, turn right, and you will be walking towards the cafe. There are double doors just to your right, enter there, and go upstairs (stairs right in front of you). The Chaplin is now behind you. If the screening has started, there will be a red light on outside. If you open the door, you will be in the front of the theater, and
everyone can see who arrived late and disrupted the screening.

PLEASE, NO FOOD OR DRINK INSIDE THE THEATER!

General info: Long Beach is the second-largest city in L.A. County with a thriving arts colony, literary and music tradition. The city turns out for Halloween in a BIG way. Counter culture is mainstream here; there are large numbers of goth, pagan, and gay/lesbian citizens in Long Beach. What you won’t find is peasants with torches—literature in all its forms is appreciated and there is no resistance to horror, dark fantasy, or edgy film and literature.

Bertrand Smith’s Acres of Books is one of the last survivors of Long Beach’s once thriving used-book business. A force of nature itself, you will get lost in the amazing variety and scope of the books they carry. We will be reading in the Music Room, where poetry readings and concerts are held regularly, and which was in the 1940’s a Western Bar! Ron, the organizer of the events, is a great supporter of poetry and literature and some of the events I’ve seen here are awesome! Don’t be afraid to pull out all the stops for this reading. I need to know IMMEDIATELY if you can read since Ron is sending out the press release NOW.

The Garden of Pan is not just another coffeehouse. Located in Long
Beach’s thriving Arts District (where a trendy loft can cost you $800,000!), this place is a dark fantasy fan’s dream. The walls are painted with murals of Pan and other mythological beings; the effect is that of a supernatural grotto. This is not all fluffy fantasy—remember that the work “panic” comes from Pan; there is definitely a dark sensibility underlying the fun here.

When I first visited the place, they were screening the Bela Lugosi
film White Zombie and I felt right at home. We need at least one short film to screen here as well as poets and fiction writers to read. Poetry, music, and drumming circles are all celebrated here on a regular basis.

Let me know if you want to read. We need at least one person to screen a film at the Garden of Pan, also. You will be allowed to SELL AND SIGN books and films at BOTH venues.
